Participating in the London Marathon is not just an athletic endeavor; it's an extraordinary journey, an exhilarating experience that combines determination, passion, and of course, a bit of healthy cooking. This year I am 45 years old, I completed the 45th London Marathon, which set a record for the largest number of finishers in history. But that's not all—my culinary expertise and health knowledge played a pivotal role in my training process, showcasing the blend of fitness and culinary delight.
The Iconic London Marathon
The London Marathon is much more than a race. It stands as the world's most iconic marathon, drawing runners from every corner of the globe. The atmosphere is electric, with crowds cheering and a vibrant display of energy. From the starting line in Greenwich to the finish line at The Mall, the course is lined with thousands of fans, each adding to the lively spirit of London.
People run for various reasons: for personal achievement, charity, or simply the love of running. This year's event was particularly special, breaking records and setting a new benchmark in marathon history. Imagine the energy and excitement of thousands of people sprinting toward the same finishing line, united by their goals and dreams.

My journey toward the marathon began way in advance, rooted in my passion for healthy living and culinary excellence.
Preparing for the Marathon: A Culinary Approach
Preparation is key to achieving any goal, especially one as monumental as running a marathon. I dedicated four weeks before the marathon to a rigorous training and diet plan aimed at boosting my endurance and overall performance. The focus was not solely on running miles but also on nourishing my body effectively to support my long training runs.
I crafted a meal plan rich in nutrients, balancing carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, alongside staying hydrated. Here is a sneak peek into my meal plan that helped sustain my energy levels:
Breakfast: Overnight oats with chia seeds, almond milk, and fresh berries.
Snacks: Banana and a handful of almonds for a quick energy boost during training.
Lunch: Quinoa salad with chickpeas, fresh vegetables, and a drizzle of olive oil.
Dinner: Grilled salmon accompanied by steamed broccoli and sweet potatoes.
By fueling my body with the right foods, I could push through the long runs and tough training sessions. Each bite was a step toward not just completing the marathon but doing so with energy and strength.

The Race Day Experience
On race day, the adrenaline rush was palpable. Waking up early and preparing for such a significant event filled me with excitement and a bit of nervousness. As I donned my running gear, I reminded myself of all the hard work—both in training and in meal planning—that had led to this moment.
I stood amongst fellow runners, sharing smiles and experiences, each of us carrying our reasons for participating. The sound of the starting gun was exhilarating, marking the beginning of an incredible adventure.
The physical challenge was immense, but so was the support from spectators along the way. Bands playing music, children offering high-fives, and strangers cheering loudly created an atmosphere of unity. I found myself energised at every mile marker and deeply grateful for all the support.
